FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ASCEND MATH OFFERS A FREE INTERACTIVE MATH ACTIVITY AND CONTEST FOR CLASSROOMS
Shreveport, LA (Nov. 1, 2012) Ascend Education announced today the launch of the Reckless Pursuit Math-Ventures Interactive Blog and Contest for Classrooms.
Reckless' Pursuit is a free interactive blog contest created specifically for classrooms. Fictional math-venturer "Reckless" Rick Carter is lost. Classrooms are invited to read Rick's weekly journal entries and use the clues to guess where he is. In each blog entry Rick will be faced with a math challenge he is unable to solve on his own. Students work together to come up with the answer while using the clues in the blog to find Rick. Each math problem includes free help in the form of online Ascend Math video tutorials and virtual manipulatives. "Reckless Pursuit gives teachers an opportunity to introduce real word math problems, geography, and even a little history each week." said Kevin Briley, CEO of Ascend Education. "It also provides the opportunity to hone educational internet searching skills. Its purpose is to add a little fun while complementing what the teacher is already doing without significant demand on classroom time." The first blog entry appeared on Monday October 29. Already, teachers are commenting. "The best part of today's clue is that it fit in perfectly with the lesson I taught in their Algebra I class," wrote Marge Harris, Math Department Chair at St. Pius X High School in Houston, TX. "Hopefully they realize a little better that we really DO use math in real life!"
Reckless Pursuit Math-Ventures will continue with new weekly math-ventures through December 12, 2012. All educators and interested parties are invited to take part at http://ascendmath.com/rrblog/.
